Child Badly Wounded In Indianapolis Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Police say a 4-year-old child was badly wounded by gunfire at an Indianapolis apartment complex where a woman was also injured.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening on the city's north side. Police say officers arrived at the complex to find the woman with a gunshot wound to the leg, and she was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Officers were notified about 15 minutes later about a child had been taken to a nearby hospital with leg wounds. Police say the child was in critical condition.

Investigators believe a gunman was firing at a car in which the child was a passenger. The wounded woman wasn't in the vehicle. Police say the woman and child aren't related.

No arrests were immediately made.
