Children’s Zoo Undergoes Major Renovation

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Officials with the Children’s Zoo in Fort Wayne announced major renovations to one of their signature attractions.

When the zoo opens Saturday, visitors will experience the first phase of improvements to the 27-year-old Australian Adventure.

The $7 million dollar expansion includes customer-friendly enhancements to the entry, a renovated train station, new ice cream shop, building facades and new restrooms.

Officials say future phases will future animal species including sharks, stingrays, Australia’s trademark bird the kookaburra and kangaroos and dingos.

More than 545 thousand people visited the zoo last year.
