City Considers Lifting Employee Residency Requirement

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Soon, you may not have to live in Allen County to work for the City of Fort Wayne.

Tuesday night a bill that would let any city employee live in any surrounding Indiana county, as long as it borders Allen County, got initial approval from the Fort Wayne City Council on a 7-2 vote, with Republicans Mitch Harper and Russ Jehl opposed.

The Journal Gazette reports that several city departments have reported having problems filling positions because potential employees either don't want to, or can't, move away from an adjacent county.

The measure will come back up for a final vote next week.
