Construction Worker Dies in Indianapolis Sewer

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Authorities have identified a worker who died in a project constructing a tunnel 200 feet beneath Indianapolis.
The contractor who died early Friday has been identified as 25-year-old William “Isaac'' Simpson.

Citizens Energy spokeswoman Sarah Holsapple says the cause of Simpson's death isn't known. The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration and police are investigating his death.

Spokesman Dan Considine says an ambulance was called to the deep tunnel project on the city's southwest side about 3 a.m. Friday.

The project is an eight-mile tunnel that will be used to store sewage and keep it from flowing into the White River during heavy rains. The project is part of a federally mandated project to alleviate situations in which storm water and sewage drainage exceed a system's capacity, causing pollution.
