Crash Closes NB I-65 South of Indianapolis Most of Day

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) _ Cleanup and paving likely will keep a section of northbound Interstate 65 south of Indianapolis closed until Tuesday evening.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says it expects the full closure of the northbound lanes near Franklin to continue until then while crews replace up to 400 feet of damaged pavement.

State police say a semitrailer erupted in flames about 6:20 a.m. after it apparently sideswiped a concrete construction barrier and ruptured a fuel tank. The driver was able to escape without injury.

Northbound I-65 is closed between mile markers 76 and 95. Police said northbound traffic is being diverted onto U.S. 31 at the Taylorsville exit north of Columbus. Traffic already north of there but behind the crash site is being routed onto State Road 44 at Franklin.
