Dairy Cancels Plan to Build DeKalb County Farm

BUTLER, Ind. (WOWO): A plan to build a major dairy farm near Butler has died.

Officials with Cardinal Dairies LLC announced earlier this week, they would withdraw the proposal. Originally the company requested permission to building a 160 acre farm on DeKalb County Road 20 northwest of Butler.

The development would have housed about five thousand cows.

The plan generated much public criticism. Neighbors were concerned about what it would do to property values and the impact on the environmental. They cited issues about contaminated water and odor from animal waste.
