INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A prosecutor is seeking the death penalty against the man accused of fatally shooting an Indianapolis police officer with an assault rifle.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry filed court papers Tuesday seeking a death sentence against 25-year-old Major Davis Jr. of Indianapolis in connection with the slaying of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer Perry Renn on July 5.
Curry says there's been 22 incidents in which police officer were shot at in the past 18 months. He says “it's clear that there are those in our city who believe our police officers are fair game.''
Davis is charged with murder in the case. Davis' attorney could not be reached for comment Tuesday because his voice mailbox was full and a new message could not be left for him.
