Defendants Found Guilty of Murder in Elkhart Home Invasion

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) _ A jury has found two defendants guilty of murder in the shooting death of an 18-year-old Elkhart man.

The Elkhart Truth reports that 19-year-old Freddie Rhodes and 17-year-old Deante Dalton were convicted Monday after their attorneys declined to call witnesses to testify. They each face up to 65 years in prison.

Rhodes and Dalton were found responsible for the death of Dre Tarrious Rodgers under a state law that allows a person to be charged with murder if someone dies during the course of a felony, even if they didn't personally commit the murder.

Court documents say Rodgers was shot several times during a struggle over a handgun when he, Rhodes and Dalton attempted to rob a home in September.

Rodgers died at the scene.
