Authorities: Inmate Escaped from Indiana Jail Captured

VERSAILLES, Ind. (AP) — Authorities in southeastern Indiana say an inmate who escaped from jail is back in custody after a nine-hour search.

The Ripley County Sheriff's Office released a statement Sunday morning saying authorities received assistance from the public in the capture.

Authorities say 41-year-old Chris Rolfes fled from Ripley County Jail on foot just before 11 p.m. on Saturday. Several police departments conducted a search of the area.

He was not believed to be armed and was wearing a jail-issued jumpsuit and sandals.

Authorities say it was possible he was heading to Ohio.
