FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It looks like there could soon be more places to get a drink in downtown Fort Wayne soon.

The City Council last night gave first approval to a bill that would let “qualifying businesses” get liquor licenses for a reduced fee. The News-Sentinel reports that the bill creates a “riverfront dining district” that will hopefully stimulate further growth in the downtown area. 

Community Development Downtown Manager Sharon Feasel says these licenses will be special, in that they can't be sold or transferred, so the move isn't “unfair” to existing businesses who've paid $100,000 or more for their liquor licenses.

A final vote on the bill is set for December 8th.
