ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — Elkhart County Clerk Chris Anderson and Chief Deputy Carol Smith face felony charges after a grand jury indicted them for official misconduct and criminal conversion.

Investigators say they allegedly paid staff for hours not worked.

Despite knowing both defendants, Judge Michael Christopheno says he’ll preside over the trial, confirming with the state there’s no conflict.

The trial is set for December 8th.
