TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Officials say Indiana State University's upcoming demolition of two 15-story buildings won't threaten the nearby home of early 20th century labor leader Eugene Debs.

The Debs home and museum is a national historic landmark and is on the same block as the Statesman Towers. The former residence halls and academic buildings are slated for demolition starting in April.

Debs Foundation secretary Charles King tells the Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/1Lq3BPB ) that foundation leaders were concerned about potential damage to the museum when the university was considering implosion of the towers. The project contract calls for mechanical demolition using a crane and wrecking ball. 

Indiana State vice president Diann McKee says demolition should be finished around July, followed by landscaping work. The total project is costing about $4 million.
