Evansville Faces More Water Main Breaks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ About a dozen sections of Evansville are under boil water advisories because of ongoing troubles with water main breaks in the city.

Officials are blaming the main breaks on the recent cold weather and age of the pipes in the city's older neighborhoods.

City utility director Allen Mounts tells the Evansville Courier & Press that crews have been working 16-hour days to make repairs and outside contractors have been hired to help.

He says the city's water plant also has had to flush out its treatment beds much more often because the Ohio River is hovering around the freezing mark.

Water main breaks have plagued Evansville for the past month, with officials asking residents in early January to conserve water while repairs are made.
