Woman Gets 3 Years for Child’s Day Care Death

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has sentenced a woman to three years' incarceration in connection with the death of a 5-month-old boy at a suburban Indianapolis day care.

A Hamilton County jury found 23-year-old Kirsten Phillips of Avon guilty last month of reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter in the January 2013 death of Conor Tilson at an unlicensed day care in Carmel. She was sentenced Tuesday.

Authorities say the child was placed in a broken crib in a room with no adults and no baby monitor. Her mother, day care owner Stacey Cox, found the child unresponsive two hours later.

Phillips sobbed at times during the sentencing. She told the child's parents she was sorry for their loss.

Cox was released in January after also being convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
