BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ A long-serving Australian cabinet minister will be Indiana University's first distinguished diplomat in residence.
The Herald-Times reports that Gareth Evans will visit the university's School of Global and International Studies in May. He was Australia's foreign minister from 1988 to 1996. He also was leader of the Australian Senate. Since 2010 he's been the chancellor of Australian National University.
During his time in Indiana, Evans will teach an advanced course on diplomacy. He also hopes to meet with students and faculty.
Lee Feinstein is dean of IU's School of Global and International Studies and a former U.S. ambassador. He says he has worked with Evans before and that Evans is on the cutting edge of policy and research.
