Ex-jailer Gets 16 Years in Porn, Exploitation Case

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A former eastern Indiana jailer convicted of child exploitation stemming from child porn found on his computer has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Thirty-one-year-old Derek D. Walton of Liberty was sentenced Friday in federal court in Indianapolis. He was also fined $5,000 and ordered to serve a lifetime of supervised release after completing his sentence.

The former Franklin County reserve deputy was convicted on two counts of child exploitation.

Federal prosecutors say they traced two email accounts used to transmit child pornography to Walton. One of the accounts was accessed repeatedly from the Franklin County Security Center in Brookville, about 65 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Walton had been an employee of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. He had worked as a reserve sheriff's deputy and a jail officer.
