COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP): Federal officials say more than 226,000 Ohioans are signed up for health coverage through the federal marketplace.

Enrollment figures recently released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reflect those who picked plans or renewed coverage from Nov. 1 through Jan. 9.

Ohio uses the federal health insurance marketplace created by President Barack Obama’s health law. People can enroll through the website, HealthCare.gov.

The latest figures included the number of sign-ups in communities across Ohio, such as: 81,207 consumers in the Cleveland-Akron area; 44,946 in the Cincinnati area; 44,189 consumers in the Columbus area; 21,450 consumers in the Dayton area; 17,735 consumers in the Toledo area; and 13,804 consumers in the Youngstown area.

Open enrollment ends on Jan. 31. People who remain uninsured after that risk rising fines.
