Fire Causes Significant Damage to Whitley County Sawmill

SOUTH WHITLEY, Ind. (AP) – Authorities are investing a fire that caused significant damage to a sawmill in Whitley County.

Firefighters found three buildings engulfed in flames when they arrived at Amos Yoder sawmill late Monday night. Additional departments were called to help battle the blaze.

Cleveland Township Fire Chief Terry Gardner says all three buildings contained a variety of sawmill equipment. He says several tanks containing liquefied petroleum exploded in the fire, but firefighters were able to keep flames away from a diesel tank.

Gardner says welders had been working inside one of the buildings Monday and a spark may have caused the fire. tHE extent of the damage was still unknown early Tuesday morning.

No injuries were reported.
