HAUBSTADT, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities are investigating a fisherman's death after he was found in a private pond in Gibson County.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says 83-year-old Eugene Schneider of Fort Branch was pulled from the water shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday and pronounced dead at a hospital in Evansville.

Schneider left his home to go fishing around 2 p.m. Sunday at a private pond near Haubstadt. His son found him face down and unresponsive in the pond after Schneider failed to return.

Conservation officers with the state Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office.
