Flooding Around Mississinewa Lake Causes $900K in Damage

PERU, Ind. (AP) _ Officials are estimating that record flooding around Mississinewa Lake's reservoir caused about $900,000 in property damage.

Water levels have receded after peaking at more than 40 feet above normal earlier in the summer. The water nearly reached the dam's emergency spillway due to about two months of flooding.

Most of the facilities near the lake have opened for the first time since late June. Boat ramps, docks, cabins, fishing piers, the swimming beach and most of the campsites and shelters reopened on Tuesday.

The Kokomo Tribune reports that the beach house, camp store and youth-tent area will remain closed due to flood damage.

The reservoir's property manager estimates it will cost about $600,000 to fix the beach house and camp store.
