FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – The Fort Wayne City Council is set to hold a public hearing regarding the annexation of 720 acres of land in New Haven. This move will enable a major technology company to construct a state-of-the-art data center campus.

The hearing will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Council chambers courtroom at Citizens Square, with no other agenda items scheduled. According to the Journal Gazette, the area in question, located in the southeastern part of the city, stretches from Paulding Road in the north to Adams Center Road in the west, Tillman Road in the south, and Railroad Quarter in the east, according to Council President Glynn Hines, representing the D-at large district. While 170 acres fall within Fort Wayne’s city limits, 80 acres are within New Haven, with more than 60 of these New Haven acres owned by Fort Wayne Redevelopment.

The public hearing comes at the request of Mayor Tom Henry, who cited the competitive market in keeping the technology company’s identity under wraps. The annexation, described as “super voluntary,” has full support from all landowners in the area.

Moreover, the Fort Wayne and Allen County plan commissions will conduct a joint public hearing at 1 p.m. on November 9 at Citizens Square, as required by law to ensure community involvement in the decision-making process.
