FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Everyone tries to save energy, especially during the winter, and now the Fort Wayne Fire Department has made a competition out of it.

Starting last month, the department launched a contest between all of its 18 stations to see who could save the most energy compared to last year’s totals, with the winning team getting prizes.

Chief Eric Lahey told the News-Sentinel it’s part of a commitment to hold his department more accountable to taxpayers, and says it’ll be up to each station’s crew to figure out how they want to save on the power bill.

The first prize is a new big-screen TV. Other prizes include a party meal and an energy-efficient oven.
