FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Plan Commission received mixed responses on plans to relocate the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission on Monday night.

The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission wants to relocate from East Superior Street to East Washington Boulevard. The move would triple its space, according to the Journal Gazette.

A dozen people spoke in favor of the move, but there were also eight residents speaking against it. Many businesses are also opposing the move.

Those opposing the move say it won’t have a positive impact on the neighborhood. Some residents say the proposed four-story shelter would encourage more homeless people to congregate downtown.

Others are concerned that the new location, which is across the street from a liquor store, might not be the best idea.

Supporters say relocating to downtown would put the Rescue Mission closer to other social service agencies.

The commission will vote on the request next Monday
