Fort Wayne TinCaps win top MiLB honor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne TinCaps received a big honor.

The team held a special event at Parkview Field on Thursday to announce they won the John H. Johnson President’s Award, which is Minor League Baseball’s top award.

It’s presented annually to honor a “complete baseball franchise,” including franchise and league stability, contributions to the community and promotion of the sport.

“We’re honored to receive the John H. Johnson President’s Award,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “This is a testament to the amazing fans, sponsors, media and partners we have in our region. It’s also recognition for our terrific staff that works incredibly hard.”

During the 2016 season, 413,701 fans came to Parkview Field.

The TinCaps organization was also named the No. 1 Minor League Baseball Ballpark Experience by Stadium Journey, the Best Class A Ballpark by Ballpark Digest and Top 25 in Merchandise Sales by Minor League Baseball. Team President Mike Nutter was also named the Individual of Integrity Award by the Better Business Bureau.
