Funeral Procession For New Carlisle Firefighter

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. (AP) _ A funeral procession is planned to honor a northern Indiana firefighter killed when a roof collapsed on him while he was fighting a fire.

A funeral service is scheduled Monday for 41-year-old New Carlisle Assistant Fire Chief Jamie Middlebrook at Bethel College in Mishawaka. Middlebrook died Tuesday night when a roof collapsed on him when he was helping to set up a hose inside K-Fex Excavating and Trucking outside New Carlisle, about 15 miles west of South Bend.

After the funeral, there will be a funeral procession to New Carlisle Cemetery.

State and federal investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.

The fire department is inviting supporters to donate to the Middlebrook family at 1st Source Bank.
