FWCS Installs New Security System

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A new security system will be installed at Fort Wayne Community Schools, allowing visitors to enter with a barcoded ID.

A total of eight out of the district's 50 buildings have been designated for a new barcode scanner system. According to the Journal Gazette, buildings will be able to turn away unwanted guests with a buzzer system. Front Desk employees will be notified when guests arrive.

When the visitor's drivers license is scanned, a computer checks the record to see whether the person is a registered sex offender or unwanted guest of the building.

Software for the system will cost an estimated $6,000 a year to to run.
