Gary Airport Manager Resigns to Return to Detroit

GARY, Ind. (AP) _ The manager of the airport in Gary has resigned so he can move back to Detroit, where he was previously an airport director.

Delbert Brown was hired last August by private operator AvPorts to run the Gary/Chicago International Airport. He left the Detroit City Airport, where he worked from 2000 to 2012, after an audit revealed financial discrepancies with contracts.

During his year at the Gary airport, Brown oversaw the return of the Gary Air Show, which had been on hiatus for two years. He also was responsible for implementing new reporting procedures and handling a 33 percent increase in aircraft operations.

Airport officials say Brown is moving back to Detroit to spend time with family.

The (Munster) Times reports that AvPorts will advertise the airport manager position nationwide.
