GOP Senators Introduce TORNADO Act to Improve Severe Weather Forecasting

Constituents from Indiana speak with Senator Todd Young during Bread for the World's 2017 Lobby Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. This year's theme focuses on urging Congress to make funding decisions that will end hunger by 2030. By Laura Elizabeth Pohl for Bread for the World

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOWO) – Republican Senators Todd Young and Roger Wicker reintroduced the Tornado Observation Research Notification and Deployment to Operations (TORNADO) Act to improve the forecasting and understanding of tornadoes and other hazardous weather.

The TORNADO Act would require the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to update its methods for predicting and communicating weather alerts to residents.

“In recent months, severe weather has tragically taken the lives of Hoosiers and devastated several Indiana communities. While we can’t prevent these storms from occurring, the TORNADO Act would improve severe weather forecasting, notifying the public faster and allowing Hoosiers to find safety more quickly.” – Senator TODD Young (R-Ind.)

The reintroduction of the legislation follows a particularly active start to tornado season, which included a series of storms in Indiana.

The goal of the TORNADO Act would be to require NOAA to implement new technology and procedures that could help increase the lead times provided to the public in advance of extreme weather events.

“Even when tornadoes are well-forecasted, warnings do not always provide enough lead time to ensure the public can respond or seek appropriate shelter. The federal government has a vested interest in making sure Americans have as much notice as possible of severe weather. The TORNADO Act would improve the forecasting and understanding of these natural disasters so we can prevent future loss of life and property.” – Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.)

Among other provisions, the TORNADO Act would:

  • Require NOAA to prepare and submit an action plan for the national implementation of high-resolution probabilistic guidance for tornado forecasting and prediction.
  • Encourage NOAA to evaluate the current tornado rating system and make updates.
  • Mandate NOAA to coordinate with appropriate entities when conducting post-storm assessments to optimize data collection, sharing, and integration.

More free Advertising for Toad Young. I sure hope he reports it on his FEC forms. Everything Toady touches turns to warts. Sure we can spend a boatload more money on this or any other issue. The Federal Government can’t resist spending money on any random hangnail. The sad fact is that nobody is listening to the forecasts. We can watch the local meteorologist pinpoint the place on the radar where a tornado is active. People have their faces in their phones looking at cat videos, or worrying about their pronouns, or thinking about where to buy Bud Light. What else do we need? Besides haven’t you all noticed that we are $$$$$TRILLIONS in DEBT–much of it owed to the Chicoms????? that debt is destroying this country. From the moment God Created the atmosphere and placed the sun and moon in the sky there have been weather system creating hurricanes and tornadoes, rain and snow, cold and heat, ice ages and warming trends. The best we humans can do is pay attention. But we are long past humans paying attention as the Marxicrats steal our God Given Liberty. Toad Young is part of the problem not in any way part of the solution. He is a Toady jerked around buy the elitists he wants to be part of. Their goal is to spend this country into oblivion in the hopes of buying up the pieces in the aftermath. Sadly they will also be consumed by the chaos they created. The rest of us Hoosiers lose. Vote for the Toad to get more of the same.

Day four or five for free Toad Young Advertising from WOWO. Aren’t there much more important stories as our country falls apart you could publish? Are you all lazy, politically active, or lacking in enough people to put news stories out there every day. After all the word is “New.” Our Toady senator always gets at least a week of free advertising every time he belches or stabs Hoosiers in the back by not following his sacred oath of office. This is inexcusable.
