Hamlet Man Charged after Authorities Say he was Shot by Daughter

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (AP) _ A northern Indiana man who authorities say was accidentally shot in the arm by his 4-year-old daughter is facing criminal charges, including neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury.

Thirty-five-year-old David Paulson of Hamlet, a town 35 miles southwest of South Bend, also is facing charges of neglect of a dependent, criminal recklessness and false informing. He was released Sunday on $750 bond.

A probable cause affidavit states the girl found a loaded gun in Paulson's coveralls in the backseat of his vehicle. The affidavit says Paulson initially told police he shot himself accidentally while reaching for his wallet in his coveralls while driving.

Paulson could not be reached for comment because there was no telephone listing for him and court documents didn't indicate whether he had an attorney.
