Holiday cab program to return for 31st year

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Police Chief Steve Reed announced the return of the holiday cab program for the 31st year Tuesday morning at Citizens Square.

The program, which provides free cab rides home to impaired drivers, runs from Thursday, December 20 to Tuesday, January 1 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

“The Holiday Cab program provides a great community service,” said Chief Reed.  “We applaud and support their mission to reduce impaired driving and get everyone home safely.”

The cab rides are free within a 10 mile radius of downtown Fort Wayne. If you live further away, you will only have to pay the difference.

To get the free service, call 260-426-8555. The service will only take people home, and reservations are not accepted.

Last year’s holiday cab program provided 229 free rides home.

Rides for this year’s program will once again be provided by Deluxe Taxi Company.
