FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One man is dead after he tried to burglarize a home and was shot by the owner on the city's south side.

According to Fort Wayne Police, just before midnight today, officers responded to a reported shooting on Melita Street near Webster Street. When they got to the scene, officers found an unresponsive man who medics determined to be deceased.

Fort Wayne Police say it appears the man tried to burglarize the home when he was confronted by the homeowner, who was armed. The owner, who was the only person home at the time, shot the invader, who is believe to have acted alone.
