FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Hundreds of people have turned out to honor Fort Wayne broadcast legend Bob Chase today. A public visitation service is underway at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, starting at 2pm and running until 8pm.

His oldest son, Kurt, tells WOWO news he’s pleased by the community’s support, but there’s definitely a feeling of “unfinished business.”

“It has been a wonderful ride… he was looking forward to (working) at least two more years,” he says. “People just love to tell me how, through the years, they’ve listened to WOWO radio from wherever they were… WOWO radio and Komet hockey reached them, and allowed them to feel closer to home, because they could listen to Bob Chase.”

Bob spent 63 years covering Fort Wayne Komet hockey for WOWO, in addition to spending decades as the station’s Sports Director. He died on Thanksgiving Day at the age of 90.
