INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A state committee studying the safety of Indiana day care providers has wrapped up its meetings without making any recommendations on that issue. 
 
The panel of lawmakers, child advocates and state officials had its meeting adjourned Tuesday by its chairman before taking any votes on new day care regulations. Republican Rep. Timothy Wesco of Elkhart tells The Indianapolis Star he didn't believe the group had reached a consensus. 
 
Proposals that had been discussed by the Committee on Child Care included setting minimum staffing levels and new health and safety standards for day care providers. 
 
United Way of Central Indiana president Ann Murtlow says she was disappointed and perplexed by the decision not to forward recommendations for next year's legislative session.
