Indiana Firefighter Dies Weeks after Crash

HEBRON, Ind. (AP): Authorities say a northwestern Indiana firefighter has died nearly three weeks after police say he crashed his van into his home following a confrontation with his wife.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says 48-year-old John Wall of Hebron died late Saturday at a Chicago-area hospital.

Wall was a battalion chief for the Hobart Fire Department.

Wall had been hospitalized since Dec. 10 when Porter County police say he drove his van into the house as officers were inside taking a domestic violence report from his wife.

The van and part of the house caught on fire, and officers said Wall told officers to shoot him before he got back inside the burning van.
