Indiana Gay Marriage Ban Backers Seek Youth Support

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Supporters of a proposed state constitutional ban on gay marriage hope a new group of young supporters will help blunt some of the opposition that has stalled their efforts during the 2014 legislative session.

Members of Young Hoosiers for Marriage announced Tuesday they're launching a campaign to restore to the proposed ban language that would also ban civil unions and potentially bar employers from providing benefits to same-sex couples.

House lawmakers removed the language among concerns it went too far. But supporters have been lobbying hard to have it placed back in the measure so the constitutional amendment remains on track for a public vote in November.

Members of the new group say they organized to show younger generations support the gay marriage ban.
