INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Indiana’s seasonally-adjusted jobless rate continues to fall.
Unemployment in August dropped slightly by one-tenth of one percent. It now stands at 4.6%. Department of Workforce Development Spokesman Joe Frank says that's what they consider “full employment” in the state. Frank says that's the lowest jobless rate in Indiana since August 2007.
Frank adds that Indiana’s labor force grew by 5,629 people in August and has experienced a growth of nearly 83,000 since January 2013. Frank says Indiana continues to outperform neighboring states which are also seeing declines, but he says that's because people are dropping out of those workforces.
Despite the fall in Indiana unemployment, the state shed 5,500 private sector jobs in August. The decline concentrated mainly in the Professional and Business Services sector (-4,900), while the Manufacturing (+300), and Construction (+1,300) sectors saw growth. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics revised upward previously reported June and July private sector jobs by about 10,700.
