Indiana Securities Commissioner Resigns, No Reason Cited

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indiana Securities Commissioner Carol Mihalik has resigned.

Mihalik submitted a two-sentence resignation letter to Republican Secretary of State Connie Lawson on Friday. The resignation took effect immediately.

Lawson praised Mihalik's work since becoming commissioner in November 2013. Lawson says Mihalik “was a fierce prosecutor who worked tirelessly to put those who defrauded Hoosiers behind bars and to protect investors' hard earned dollars.''

Lawson's statement did not specify why Mihalik had resigned. Mihalik doesn't have a published telephone listing in the Indianapolis area and she could not be reached for comment.

Mihalik previously was associate general counsel in the secretary of state's office for four years.

Lawson designated her chief of staff, Brandon Clifton, to be the state's interim securities commissioner.
