Bridge Work Closing I-65/I-70 Ramp in Downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Some highway drivers will have to find a new route around downtown Indianapolis because a bridge repair project will shut down a ramp linking Interstates 65 and 70 near downtown Indianapolis for perhaps two months.
 
State highway officials say that starting early Wednesday the two-lane ramp will be closed for traffic going from northbound I-65 to westbound I-70.
 
The project will involve repairs on two 40-year-old bridges, including redoing their concrete decks, replacing bridge joints and rebuilding bridge supports. Contractors are scheduled to have the ramp reopened by the end of July.
 
Traffic for northbound I-65 to westbound I-70 will be redirected west on I-465 during the project.
 
Highway officials say closing the ramp will allow the work to be completed much faster than if traffic was maintained during construction.
