BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): The dean of Indiana University's College of Arts and Sciences says the college will have a budget shortfall between $4 million and $8 million for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Dean Larry Singell says the college runs on a $393 million budget. The shortfall mainly was caused by a decrease in students taking general education classes because of credit already earned from courses they took in high school.
Singell says the college's reserves will cover the budget shortfall, but it still could cause several long-term changes. The shortfall could mean a hiring freeze, fewer graduate course offerings and the elimination of certain operating units.
But Singell says the college isn't facing a crisis yet.
