5 Elkhart County Inmates Taken to Hospital with Seizures

ELKHART, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana sheriff's department says five inmates were taken to a hospital suffering from seizures, apparently after smoking something.

Elkhart County Sheriff's Capt. Jim Bradberry says officers at the jail were alerted about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday that inmates in a minimum-security unit needed medical help. He says when officers arrived four inmates were having seizures. Another inmate began seizing while officers were present.

Officers reported a burnt smell and Bradberry says other inmates reported the five had been smoking something.

Bradberry says they were taken to the Elkhart General Hospital as a precaution. Bradberry says their medical conditions were not immediately available.
