Indianapolis airport garage canopy collapses under snow

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A canopy over a parking garage at the Indianapolis International Airport has collapsed, dumping snow on the cars below.

Airport Authority spokesman Carlo Bertolini says no one was injured and no vehicles were damaged when the canopy ripped along most of its width about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The garage remains open. Nearby walkways were turned off and a sculpture was damaged.

Bertolini says a lift truck was brought in to remove the snow. The process was expected to take a few hours.

Bertolini says officials plan to remove the canopy completely before discussing a more permanent solution with contractors.

A similar collapse in 2011 damaged some rental cars and other items.
