Indianapolis Couple Face Charge in Daughter’s Death

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis couple is charged in connection with the death of their paralyzed daughter.

John and Lavonne Kelley each face a felony count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury. They're accused of failing to seek medical treatment for blackened bedsores on their 18-year-old daughter, Linda, who suffered from spina bifida.

Linda Kelley died Aug. 9 in the family's home. The Indianapolis Star reports some of her bed sores were so deep they exposed bone and organs.

The Marion County coroner's office determined her cause of death was acute and chronic bedsores due to her bedridden state.

Court documents show the Kelleys previously have been accused of neglecting their daughter's medical needs.

Linda Kelley was paralyzed from the waist down and had a shunt in her brain.
