LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Purdue University's performing arts program plans to host its own field recording event to capture the sounds, songs and stories of the Lafayette area.

Purdue Convocations is accepting submissions of audio or video pieces that represent the community. A panel will choose eight entries to record at its Field Recording Open House on March 28, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Carnahan Hall in Lafayette.

The event honors the 100th birthday of renowned musician Alan Lomax, who traveled the country and the world for more than 60 years using rough recording equipment to capture the sounds of different cultures.

Entries should be seven minutes or less and are due by Feb. 22. Participants can apply directly online at www.purdue.edu/convocations.
