Indianapolis Pastor Allegedly Defrauded Latinos

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Prosecutors say an Indianapolis pastor defrauded Latinos by posing as an attorney and taking payments in immigration cases.

Jorge Lopez Chinchilla was charged Tuesday with five counts of theft, four counts of forgery and one count of corrupt business influence.

He's accused in court documents of accepting money intended to pay bonds for people being held by immigration officials in Chicago. In one case, a woman paid him to intervene in her husband's deportation, but the man was deported and Lopez refused to refund the money.

Prosecutors say Lopez was released on bond. It's not clear whether he has an attorney. His church, Iglesia De Cristo Nuevo, doesn't have a published telephone number.
