Indianapolis Plans $1.1M Basketball Courts Project

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A $1.1 million project is planned to build or improve outdoor basketball courts in several Indianapolis parks, with one of the new courts being named for Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings.

Mayor Greg Ballard announced the project on Tuesday, saying the work will be done over the next five years.

The Indianapolis Star reports about half of the money for the work will come from the Indianapolis Parks Foundation, Indianapolis Power & Light Co. and the Pacers Foundation.

Catchings says she’s humbled to have a basketball court bear her name and that it will be used for programs sponsored by her Catch the Stars Foundation.

Ballard says the project will accomplish about half of the outdoor basketball court improvements needed in the city parks system.
