Indianapolis police shoot armed homeowner during robbery

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indianapolis police say an officer mistakenly shot and wounded an armed homeowner who was trying to protect his wife during a robbery.

Marion County police say the shooting happened early Tuesday when police were sent to the home on the report of a possible robbery. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Kendale Adams says police shot a man with a gun who turned out to be trying to stop someone from carjacking his wife at their home.

Authorities say the suspect fled.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the victims was shot once in the midsection and taken to the hospital.
