Indianapolis Won’t Host Cricket Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The city of Indianapolis has canceled its plans to host a national cricket championship this summer, citing a lack of communication with the USA Cricket Association.

Mayor Greg Ballard's office said Friday it was terminating its agreement to host the US National Cricket Championships in August at Indianapolis' new World Sports Park.

Ballard says in a statement the city was ending the agreement because inadequate communications with the Florida-based cricket association “were putting our ability to host a successful tournament at risk.”

The mayor says the city's decision not to host the championship for the ball-and-bat sport that's mainly popular overseas won't impact its completion of the $5.1 million World Sports Park.

That 40-acre development will feature multiple athletic fields for cricket, soccer, rugby, hurling and lacrosse.
