Indianapolis Zoo’s Orangutan Center Features Trail

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The Indianapolis Zoo's new orangutan center will feature an atrium with a 50-foot ceiling and a trail for the apes that will reach 80 feet above ground and be seen from various points in the city.

The zoo gave the news media a sneak peak Thursday of the $26 million exhibit space that's larger than two NFL football fields and is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend.

The Indianapolis Star reports the center has two separate heating and cooling systems that will keep the orangutans and their human visitors comfortable year-round. The eight orangutans housed there might prefer a higher temperate in the summer and more humidity in the winter.
