FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Go Fort Wayne Mastodons!

IPFW Director of Athletics Kelley Hutton announced Monday morning that the university would be using the name “Fort Wayne” as the brand name for the athletic department, according to an IPFW spokesperson. 

“The Fort Wayne Athletics identity builds a stronger tie to our community and elevates our brand beyond northeast Indiana,” Hutton said. “IPFW is an extraordinary university in an extraordinary city. After careful study and some compelling research results, it became clear that this is the right move for us.”

Some Mastodon teams have already been using the Fort Wayne name on their uniforms, but now the re-branding is official among all IPFW teams. The university’s IPFW academic brand will remain unchanged.
