TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State University breaks ground on a $4.3 million track and field complex that will become the campus' first new athletic facility in a quarter-century.
School officials said Monday they hope the new complex that includes a nine-lane track will serve as the site for competitive meets at the local, regional and even national levels.
ISU athletic director Ron Prettyman says the facility will boost the school's chances of recruiting top-level student athletes.
The project will replace the existing Marks Field at a new site along the Wabash River. The Tribune-Star reports the new complex is part of ISU's master plan to move several athletic facilities to the riverfront.
When complete, the track and field complex will become ISU's first new athletic facility since 1989.
